   General overview
Geographically, the city of Oradea lies in the northwestern area of Romania, on the Crisul Repede Valley, where the Western Plain meets with the Oradea and Tasadului Hills. It is also situated right at the beginning of the Vad-Borod Depression. Its settlement allowed the construction of some main road and rail communication networks. The variety of the natural environment, but also the continuos development of the communication infrastructure made the city's commercial trades with nearby areas easier. It also lead to a complex social-economical development. Oradea's relief is diversified, with both hills and plains, crossed by the Crisul River. Oradea has a temperate climate, with western influences. The average air temperature of Oradea is 10 degrees C, with temporary variations.
According to the July 1, 1997 census, Oradea has 221,469 citizens and a total surface of 1122 ha.
